Boat Hut Insight
While the Johnson L4000 is built tough and reliable, consider your boat’s bilge space accessibility before installation. The pump’s height of 216 millimetres means it might require a bit of clearance, especially in smaller vessels. Also, the choice between 1½ inch and 2 inch ports is not just about hose size; a larger port can reduce clogging risk and improve flow efficiency, but may need bigger hose fittings that aren’t always standard on recreational boats.
Pro tip: If you’re running this pump on a 24 Volt system, pairing it with a good quality float switch can save your battery and prevent the pump from running dry, extending the pump’s life even further. And a quick chuckle—if your bilge pump is the only thing you hear running on your boat, you might want to check if it’s doing its job or if something else is leaking!
