When choosing a rod holder finish, think beyond looks: gold titanium coatings can reduce glare in bright sunlight and are often harder-wearing than plain mirror polish when used frequently with heavy tackle. If you plan to leave rods in holders for extended periods, inspect the PVC liner regularly — a small split can allow salt water to trap against the stainless steel and accelerate pitting. For multi-rod banks, measure the reel diameter and handle sweep to ensure each rod sits without interfering with its neighbour — spacing is as important as finish.
Tip: If you fish in warm, sunny climates, mount rod holders where they won’t create hot spots that can soften PVC liners. A small dab of marine grease on the 5 mm alignment pin can prevent corrosion and make removal easier during maintenance.
