Description
Marine Town Magnetic Slide Catch — Stainless Steel
Solid cast 316 grade stainless steel housing with non-rattle nylon slide.
Gone is the shock loading of conventional slam action doors as the magnetic mechanism only actuates when the slide and strike are parallel in the fully closed position.
Slide protrusion when closed can also be adjusted from 6 mm to 20 mm.
Suits left or right hand, in or out opening doors.
Features
- Solid cast 316 grade stainless steel housing — superior corrosion resistance for marine environments
- Non-rattle nylon slide — quieter operation and reduced wear
- Magnetic actuation — prevents shock loading common in slam-action catches
- Adjustable slide protrusion: 6 mm to 20 mm — flexibility for different door and strike setups
- Universal fit — suitable for left or right hand, inboard or outboard opening doors
Technical Notes
- Material: 316 grade stainless steel (housing)
- Slide material: engineered nylon (non-rattle)
- Adjustable protrusion range: 6 mm to 20 mm
Warning: Ensure correct alignment of slide and strike during installation. Misalignment can reduce magnetic hold and cause premature wear.
Boat Hut Insight
When fitting a magnetic slide catch on a vessel, think beyond just the door: vibration and hull flex will slowly change alignment over time. I recommend using a thin, marine-grade silicone sealant sparingly around the mounting screws (not on the moving slide) to dampen micro-vibrations and reduce creak over years of service. Also consider pairing the catch with a small backing plate behind the mounting surface if the door material is composite or thin-faced timber — this spreads load, protects the fixings from working loose, and maintains the 6 mm–20 mm adjustment more reliably.
Tip: If you regularly operate the door with wet hands or gloves, test the nylon slide action after installation — water can slightly lubricate the interface and change the “feel” of engagement. A quick trial and minor protrusion adjustment will give a crisp close without slamming.
